Whether sharing a laugh or learning more about each other, these spoken games need nothing more than just a little initiative to kick things off.

Two truths, one lie

Swap three statements about yourselves:  two truthful ones and one false - and guess which is the lie. It’s an easy way to incorporate wacky and interesting facts about yourself and learn more about your partner. Enjoy playing detective and discover something new about your partner each time, or keep score if you’re feeling more competitive.

Would you rather

A classic game with surprising depth — perfect for sparking meaningful (or just hilarious) conversations. Take turns asking each other either-or scenarios, then explain why you picked what you did.

You can keep it light and funny — like “Would you rather only speak in movie quotes or only text in emojis for a month?” — or go deeper with prompts like “Would you rather your partner always tell the truth, even if it stings, or protect your feelings sometimes?”

The beauty of the game is that you can tailor the tone to match your mood — silly, serious, or somewhere in between. It’s a low-pressure way to explore each other’s values, priorities, and sense of humor — and maybe even learn something new along the way.

Never have I ever

Start with holding up 10 fingers and take turns saying “never have I ever” statements. If you’ve done something that your partner hasn’t, put a finger down. You could go funny, “Never have I ever eaten something off the floor.” Or revealing, “Never have I ever stayed in a relationship out of comfort.” You can expect giggles, surprising confessions, and give plenty of room for follow-up questions.

You’ll need your phone for these games

A little more prep for a little more fun

While these spoken games require some preparation, the deeper conversation and your significant other’s appreciation will make it worth your while.

We’re Not Really Strangers

You’ll need a copy of the card deck for this one. It’s made up of three levels of questions which gradually get deeper— think light questions like “What’s my go-to comfort food?” to deeper ones like “What do we need more in our relationship, but we struggle to say?”

Take turns asking one another, and every round helps you explore how you see each other, how you connect emotionally, and how you reflect as a couple. Through the game, you’ll be able to go beyond surface talk and spark meaningful, honest conversation.

Add a meaningful twist to the classic Jenga game by using a marker to write prompts on each piece for an interactive way to spark thoughtful conversation. Whenever you pull out a piece, answer the question before stacking it on top.

Add prompts like “What’s your favourite date spot” or “What’s your first impression of your partner” for a simple way to connect, reflect, and even learn something new about one another.

Couples charades

Put a personal twist on the classic party game by turning your own memories into hilarious acting prompts. All you need is some paper or flash cards and a pen.

Write down inside jokes, shared milestones, or unforgettable moments — like your first date, that botched anniversary dinner, or that attempt at home cooking that set off the smoke alarm. Then take turns acting them out while your partner guesses.

It’s fun, nostalgic, and a great way to laugh (a lot) while reconnecting over the little moments that make your relationship yours.
